To know
Spoken languages
North of Verona sui Lessini Mountains and onAsiago plateau there are still some countries that speak an ancient Bavarian dialect called "Cimbro" from the name of the first settlers who in 1200 AD. they emigrated from Bavaria and settled in the 13 municipalities (more than common were small towns) of the Veronese of Lessinia and in the 7 municipalities of the Asiago plateau. Even today there are 2 countries where some people understand and speak it (Giazza in the province of Verona and Roana in the province of Vicenza). It is said that the ancient language of German origin originated in Denmark but the Venetian immigration came from Bavaria with the authorization of the bishop of Verona Bartolomeo della Scala. The names of the localities (Sciopeter, Fortal, Drussel, Ongiar) have remained of the ancient Cimbrian culture, reminding us of the German origin of the ancient inhabitants of the Lessini.
