Puerto de Mogan belongs to the municipality of Mogán. The main town of the same name is located in the same valley about 9 kilometers further inland. The old fishermen's houses stretched picturesquely on the mountainside on the north side of the bay. With the advent of tourism, the place was expanded in a semicircle around the bay. The port was rebuilt and a settlement of similar apartment houses was built next to the marina. A beautiful sandy beach was raised along the bay. There are restaurants and other apartment buildings on the beach promenade. The place was spared from high-rise hotels and concrete castles, so that the place still has the flair of a well-off fishing village.

In addition to private yachts, there are still used fishing boats in the harbor. The two ferry lines lay out at the port entrance Arguineguín at.

South route

The coastal road from Las Palmas to the south ends in Puerto de Mogan. It bends inland. Here it goes further Mogan. The bus from Las Palmas also arrives here. Like all bus connections in Gran Canaria, this connection is also very inexpensive. You shouldn't be afraid to use this bus.

North route

Those who are not afraid of winding mountain trips by car can also travel from the north via the GC-200. Even from Las Palmas this relatively long journey with about 2:30 hours is worthwhile, as it is already off Agaete breathtaking views of the Atlantic, with good visibility up to Teide on Tenerife and bid in the interior of the island. The driver should use the multiple viewpoints available. The also invites you to take a short stop Playa de Aldea -the beach of La Aldea de San Nicolás- a.

By boat

A small ferry connects Puerto Rico and Arguineguín with the small town in the south of Gran Canaria. In addition to the ferries, various tour operators also offer boat trips to Puerto de Mogán. There is a historically designed ship and some sailboats, usually catamarans, that go here for a quiet day. The most important thing on these trips is the sun blocker. The sea increases the influence of the sun.

mobility

Marina

Puerto de Mogán can be explored on foot, there are also numerous taxis.

Tourist Attractions

The Venice of the Canaries
Harbor with submarine

The real attraction is the place itself. There are a number of canals that connect the port to the village. There are a lot of pretty bridges there too. This is why Puerto de Mogan is also called the Venice of Gran Canaria. A comparison that actually cannot be maintained.

activities

A nice excursion is a ferry ride to Puerto de Mogan. Without a tour operator, the ticket can be obtained like at the bus stop. Then you sail south on the coast. Here you can see the hotel castles, but you can also discover beautiful places. Here you can also find one or the other backpacker who has pitched his tent on the coast. The boats have glass windows in the hull. One shouldn't expect too much from this. The view of the ocean is only very small. Except in the harbors, there is usually not much to see here, apart from water.

A long walk in Puerto de Mogan is a must. You should come a little away from the port. If you want, come on market day. Then you can take the market with you on the side. And maybe you can also find something for loved ones at home. Definitely have lunch here. Not in the first restaurant that comes your way, but look further afield. Fish and seafood from the Spanish cuisine are highly recommended.

shop

Ferry in the port

A market takes place once a week on a stage at the harbor. In addition to fresh fruit and vegetables, the usual plagiarism is offered here. While there is no need to bargain at the greengrocers, it is worthwhile at all other stands. The dealers are not as aggressive as you know from Mallorca, for example.

kitchen

Even and especially for day visitors, lunch (and a bit later, if you want) is in Puerto de Mogan a must. In addition to the typical Spanish restaurants and tapas bars, there is also local cuisine for all other visitors to the island. Numerous restaurants can be found directly at the port or within a few minutes' walk. Due to the large number of day visitors, these are also very well attended at lunchtime, which is so loved by Germans. Directly at the fishing port you can go to the cofradia the fishing cooperative, which has meanwhile blossomed into one of the best restaurants in town, enjoy the daily freshly caught fish and watch the fishermen mending their nets. But the restaurants in the second row also offer mostly good cuisine at lower prices.

nightlife

The nightlife in Puerto de Mogan is very quiet. You can have dinner here in the numerous restaurants and also like to sit down into the night, enjoying the mild weather and the Mediterranean ambience. The town doesn't deserve wild parties either. The visitors of the day have disappeared in the evening and a pleasant calm returns to the alleys of Puerto de Mogan.

accommodation

There are several hotels in Puerto de Mogan. You have to distinguish between the hotels in the town itself and the hotels on the sandy beach. The hotels in the village are adapted to the construction of the fishing village. You go on holiday here if you want to enjoy the beauty of the place, find the atmosphere and the attitude to life great.

The hotels on the beach are more geared towards package tourists. Sun fun is hip and offered here. The beaches are very beautiful and gorgeous when you think of the heaped up beaches of Puerto Rico.

security

Beach

There is the Policia Local, the contact person for local crime. But the Guardia Civil is also represented. You are very cautious by Spanish standards. In the market you have to take care of your valuables a little. But otherwise everything is fine.
