Qal'at Zaman (also Zaman Castle, Castle Zaman, Arabic:قلعة زمان‎, Qalʿat Zamān, „Zamān Citadel“) Is a medieval citadel on the east coast of Sinai am Gulf of Aqaba between Taba and Nuweiba immediately north of Mount Raʾs el-Burqa. The citadel operates commercially with a restaurant and wellness facilities.

background

The medieval fortress was restored and put to a new use by the architect Hani Roshdi and financially supported by Naguib Sawiris.

getting there

The citadel can be easily reached via trunk road 35 from Nuweiba to Taba by car or taxi. It is located 18 kilometers south of Taba Heights, 40 kilometers south of Taba and 25 kilometers north of Nuweiba.

mobility

The ascent and the tour of the citadel can only be done on foot.

Tourist Attractions

In the medieval citadel, elevated on a rock, you can visit battlements, warehouses and the underground treasury. The citadel was on a former route from Catherine's Monastery to Jerusalem.

The citadel is open from 12 noon. Advance reservations are welcome.
