background

The area of today's Nuweiba was the habitat of two Bedouin tribes, the Tarabīn, in Arabic:الترابين, Also Tarabeen, in the north and the Muzeina,المزينة, About 8 kilometers further south. As a result of the Six Day War (June 5-10, 1967) Israeli forces occupied this area and established the settlement (moshaw) 1.5 kilometers south of Tarabīn from 1971 Neviot, today's Nuweiba. After the withdrawal of the armed forces, Nuweiba was expanded - the settlement is about 7 kilometers long - and the port was created.

Many of the local hotels are located between the city and the port.

activities

The main activities besides visiting the sights are of course swimming, diving and snorkeling in the Red Sea.

When snorkeling and diving there are in contrast to the steep walls of Sharm esch-Sheikh and Dahab real underwater landscapes that slowly drop into deeper waters. The most famous underwater creatures of the macro paradise include a variety of corals and nudibranchs, stingrays, turtles, lion and crocodile fish, scorpion fish, squid, anemonefish and moray eels. In the macro range you can often find ghost fish, pipefish, horse winged fish and seahorses.

The best dive sites from north to south are:

  • Duna Reef, the house reef on site,
  • Coral Island
  • El Maagana,
  • Pipeline,
  • MFO / The buoy,
  • Ras Mamlah

There are also fish restaurants, restaurants with Arabic-Egyptian cuisine and two Korean restaurants. The restaurants are consistently recommended. However, it is advisable to inquire on site, as some restaurants, especially in Tarabīn, have little traffic at times.

nightlife

In the suburb of Tarabīn, about 3 km away from Nuweiba City (Medina), there are a variety of restaurants right by the sea. There you can enjoy the Red Sea in a very informal atmosphere. All restaurants are furnished in the Bedouin style and offer traditional Egyptian cuisine, fresh fruit juices and the famous shisha, the Egyptian water pipe. The restaurant "Blue bus“, Emerged from a blue bus that stranded a few students in Nuweiba many years ago. The bus is still there and is now a bit hidden in the background of Tarabīn.

In downtown Nuweiba (Medina) there are a variety of coffee shops that invite you to linger.

There are discos only in the larger hotels such as the Hilton or Nuweiba Village Resort.
