The Qarun lake (Arabic:بركة قارون, Birkat Qarun), also Birkat es-Said (Arabic:بركة الصيد, Birkat aṣ-Ṣaid / aṣ-Ṣīd), is the largest inland lake Egypt and lies on the northern edge of the Faiyūm. The lake belongs to the Egyptian ones Nature reserves.

The lake was part of the local irrigation system, one of at least two water retention basins that provide year-round irrigation of the Faiyūm made possible. The original marshland of the Faiyūm was drained under Amenemhet II and Sesostris II (Middle Kingdom) to make the area usable for agriculture.
The Qārūn Lake is Not identical to that Moëris lake.
Today the lake is 40 kilometers long, 5 kilometers wide (230 km2) and 5 to 12 meters deep. The lake has no outflow and is used by the Baḥr Yūsuf (Arabic:بحر يوسف, „Joseph's Canal“) Fed.
getting there
The journey is usually made by car or taxi. One leaves Cairo in the direction 6th of October City and turns here on that Cairo el-Fayoum Desert Road. The hotels are a bit out of the way. They are located directly on the south beach of the Qārūn Lake. There is hardly any night life here.
