Access to the outer bailey
- The Ranis Castle rises on a 390 m high dolomite rock above the city. It was mentioned as early as 1084, although the current building dates largely to the 13th and 14th centuries. However, a renovation in the 17th century changed the appearance. The Ilsenhöhle, an archaeological site, is located under the castle. The castle also houses a museum, in which, in addition to regional historical aspects, information about the cave as well as geology and seismology can be obtained. Contact:
