The town Poessneck lies in the orlas cavity between Saalfeld and Neustadt (Orla).

background

Pößneck is an old cloth-making town and has changed hands several times in the course of history. Pößneck came in 1011 as an imperial domain to the Count Palatine Ego zu Aachen, in 1057 to the Archbishop Anno of Cologne, who gave it to Count Wiprecht von Groitzsch in 1100, then after the extinction of this family to the Counts of Arnshaugk, in 1303 to the Landgrave Friedrich the Freidigen, who enfeoffed the Counts of Schwarzburg with it in 1324. The city later belonged to Meissen, was Coburg until 1826 and came to Sachsen-Meiningen through the Gotha-Altenburg partition treaty of 1826.

getting there

By plane

By train

If you arrive by train, you should first note that there are two train stations in Pößneck: the lower and the upper train station. 1 Pößneck upper station is used by trains on the Saalfeld – Gera – Leipzig connection and is located southwest of the city center. 2 Pößneck lower station is the end point of the Orlabahn and is located east of the city center. Regional trains run here from Jena Hall station over Kahla and Orlamünde.

By bus

In the street

Pößneck is via the B 281 from Triptis to Saalfeld, part of the “Thüringer Porzellanstraße” on this section and part of the “Deutsche Alleenstraße” between Saalfeld and Pößneck. At Triptis there is a connection to the A 9 motorway. In the course of the six-lane expansion of the A 9, the B 281 was also expanded. So you can now visit the city quite quickly Neustadt (Orla) drive around, while driving through town was previously considered an ordeal (which is not to say that Neustadt is not worth visiting). In Pößneck, too, the main road was relocated from the town center, but no complete bypass was built.
