Geographical notes
It includes an area of about 380 ha, located entirely in the territory of the municipality of Atri, ancient city of art ofAbruzzo in Teramo coast. The management recently passed to the WWF, through a cooperative.
Flora and fauna
Flora
Despite the external appearance, which could suggest a scarce presence of plant species, you can find the wild gladiolus, capers, and licorice. The reserve extends far beyond the formation of the gullies, and you can also find willows, white poplar, elderberry and vitalba.
Fauna
The habitat is ideal for birds of prey, in fact several pairs of buzzard, kestrel and sparrow hawk nest. It is also possible to find, also thanks to the proximity of several lakes and the Piomba stream:
- Mammals: foxes, badgers, moles and hedgehogs, porcupines and the dormouse;
- Avifauna: in addition to the aforementioned birds of prey, it is a refreshment and rest point for various migratory species;
- Reptiles: the grass snake, the cervone, the little worm and other more common ones such as the field lizard, and the green lizard;
- Amphibians: several species of frogs and salamanders, as well as the rarer green toad.
