The area was inhabited since the Nuragic era, due to the presence of some nuraghi in the area.

During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres and was part of the curatoria of Caputabbas. At the fall of the Giudicato (1259) it passed under the dominion of the Genoese Doria family, and subsequently, around 1350, it was the object of the Aragonese conquest. The town was incorporated into the county of Monteleone, a fief of the Brunengo family, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
