Geography

The center and the various hamlets of the town are established on a narrow strip of land which borders the lake and which widens down towards the south. The minimum altitude of Sevrier is that of Lake Annecy, i.e. 440 meters. The village is located a few meters higher at 456 meters, but the highest point of the town is for its part at the top of Semnoz at 1,287 meters.

Story

Sevrier was already known in the Gallo-Roman era. A Roman road, which led fromAnnecy To Faverges, crossed it unless it was a secondary route via the Col de Leschaux joining Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny. These assumptions are based on the discovery in 1816 of a milestone (dated 307) at a place called Létraz.

The church of Sevrier, which is located on the Place de l'Eglise, dates from 1877, it has a neo-Gothic style. The priory is a construction which touches the church. The town hall which also served as a school was built in 1948.

The priory, bought by the municipality, houses on the ground floor the company of Strapontins and the Dauphiné-Savoie mycological and botanical federation. On the first floor, the rooms host painting or sculpture exhibitions as well as various events.

The Paccard bell foundry, founded in 1796, moved to Sevrier in 1989. Each year, several hundred bells intended for the whole world leave the workshops, 70% of which are for export. Since the start of the company, more than 80,000 bells have been melted down. On the Town Hall Square is a large ball of 39.64 tons, three meters in diameter. This block of Combloux granite was carved in the mass by M. Tunetti from 1965 to 1968.
