Evian-les Bains is a community in French Department Haute-Savoie on the south bank of the Lake Geneva. The famous mineral water named after the place is, however, in the neighboring community Publish bottled. One of the attractions of the place is the restored funicular Funicular which runs free of charge from May to September.

background

When Count Peter of Savoy built a castle in the 13th century, Evian-les-Bains became an important trading town. However, Evian-les-Bains became really famous for the discovery and use of the mineral water springs. Luxury hotels and other Belle Époque buildings were built in the mid-19th century. Since 1950 the bathing culture has been going downhill economically.

By train

Evian-les-Bains has rail connections to Geneva, Annemasse, Bellegarde, Paris and Lyon. During the season, a TGV runs to Paris on weekends.

In the street

The Départmentstraßen D24 and D1005 lead through the village. The D1005 runs along the southern shore of the lake and continues to the west with the D105 as far as Geneva away. The D24 begins in town and heads south. There is a connection to the European trunk road network in Geneva in the west and Villeneuve (approx. 25 kilometers) or Aigle (E62) in the east.

By boat

From Évian-les-Bains, passenger ferries operated by the CGN operate year-round under the term NaviMobilité directly across the lake to Lausanne-Ouchy (line N1). They mainly serve the commuter traffic of working cross-border commuters and therefore operate very early in the morning from Monday to Friday and this until late in the evening. Compared to the scheduled ships of the CGN, they have their own somewhat more expensive tariff system for single trips, offer a little less comfort, but have slightly shorter journey times than the scheduled ships.

trips

Excursions from Évian-les-Bains are generally available in the entire Lake Geneva region. Most places on the shores of the lake are easily accessible on the CGN ships, both on the Swiss and the French side. Excursions are particularly worthwhile Lausanne, Montreux and Geneva. The lake can be completely circumnavigated by car, but you have to be patient because of the sometimes narrow local passages when there is a lot of traffic. Worthwhile excursion destinations away from Lake Geneva are among other things Annecy, Chamonix and the Montblanc as well as the lake areas of Lac de Neuchâtel (Lake Neuchâtel), Lake Biel as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz Interlaken. Geneva is also easily accessible from Évian by bus. The neighboring city can be reached by bike Thonon-les-Bains, Yvoire, Chillon Castle and Montreux explore well. Another advantage of being out and about by bike is that you can usually ride right along the lakeshore.
