San Daniele del Friuli (Furlanisch Sant Denêl, German outdated: Sankt Daniel in Friuli) is a small town in the province Udine about 25 km west of Udine.

San Daniele is located on the hill Colle Massimo is known for the world-famous San Daniele ham and is a member of the Association of Liveable Cities "Cittaslow"/" Slow City ".
The city was largely destroyed in the 1976 earthquake, and no damage can be seen today.

Tourist Attractions
- The Biblioteca Guarneriana is the oldest library in the region, with its holdings of old manuscripts, the "Fontaniniana" room with its wooden bookshelves from 1742 is remarkable.
- On the main square is the Saint Michele Arcangelo Cathedral built by Domenico Rossi (1707-1725). The interior consists of three naves with two domes. At the beginning of the nave on the left is the baptistery from the 16th century, at the first altar the Trinità, a replica by Domenico Fabris based on the original from Pordenone. The unfinished bell tower was started in 1531 based on a design by Giovanni da Udine.

The double-arched bell window is by Donato da Lugano (1501). On the left side of the nave there is a fresco depicting a hunting scene with a falcon. The altar is from the 17th century.

Ham festival, Aria di Festa
- Aria di Festa. The annual ham festival begins on a weekend at the end of June on Friday at 7 p.m. and continues until Monday at midnight. Seven ham companies open their factories to offer guided tours, tasting menus and festivities. The main festival takes place in the old town, the gastronomy offers special ham menus, ham, wine, beer and music are offered everywhere.
- Festa Ladina. The first weekend in September, with Latin culture, gastronomy, handicrafts and folklore in the old town.

Prosciutto di San Daniele is a protected designation of origin, only ham made in San Daniele may be called that way. The real ham is branded in the shape of a ham with the initials "SD" and a DOP seal with the date.
