Santa Clara is the capital of the Cuban province Villa Clara, Cuba. Santa Clara is most central to the province and the country. Santa Clara is the 5th largest city with nearly 250,000 inhabitants.

Abel Santamaria Airport, Santa Clara has the Abel Santamaría International Airport. This airport is used by tourists who go to all inclusive resorts in Cayo Santa Maria as well as many travelers from the United States who are engaged in interpersonal cultural travel. Air Canada, Air Transat, Sunwing, Westjet and Cubana serve many Canadian cities from this airport. Bahamasair provides direct service to Nassau, Interjet a Mexico City and Copa a Panama City. Many European airlines offer connections from France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Great Britain.

Viazul provides several buses a day to / from Camagüey, Havana, Sancti Spiritus and Santiago of Cuba. There is also a daily service to Varadero, Cienfuegos and Trinidad.

Horse-drawn carriages operate in the city center and can lead you to Che’s mausoleum. The price will vary by distance.

Taxis are also plentiful and cheap but it is advisable to agree on a price before departure. Taxis can be used for both local travel and also for travel to other cities.

Mausoleum for the fallen of the Revolution. Santa Clara contains the mausoleum for the fallen of the Revolution. In this mausoleum are the remains of Che Guevara mem. Due to conservation of the site, photography inside the mausoleum is strictly prohibited. There are also no souvenir vendors nearby. There is also a Che Guevara museum, as well as a huge square (Plaza de la Revolución) with a large statue of Che.

Monument to the Taking of the Armored Train (5/10 min east of downtown). The site of one of the most important battles in Cuban history, where Che Guevara and his guerrillas tore up the railway line to derail an armored train and then defeated the military who were inside. The website shows the actual bulldozer used and some of the actual train cars on site. There are exhibits in the carriages, with accompanying explanatory text, only in Spanish.
