Schellenberg (Schellaberg in Alemannic) is a city of Liechtenstein.

Geographical notes
The municipality is bordered to the north-east and east by Feldkirch (Austria), south of Mauren, Eschen is Gamprin, and west from Ruggell.
Background
The area was inhabited by the Celts, then the Romans conquered the area in 15 BC.
The Lordship of Schellenberg was bought by the counts of Vaduz in 1437 by uniting the two lands. After the Swabian War in 1499, they both became under sovereignty Austrian. In 1719 Vaduz and Schellenberg were formally annexed to the Principality of Liechtenstein.
At the end of the Second World War, Liechtenstein granted asylum to about five hundred soldiers of the army Russian.

How to get
By car
In Schellenberg, there is a small crossing road to theAustria, manned by border guards. Locals consider the car the least used vehicle because the streets are usually deserted.
On the train
The most used means of transport is the train and the nearest station is at Ruggell, north of the city.
By bus
The bus is used to cover large distances, such as the one that separates Schellenberg from Vaduz.
How to get around
As Schellenberg is the flattest place in the whole country, bicycles are used a lot.

- Russian monument. In the municipal area there is a monument dedicated to Russians which recalls the night of 1945 when a squadron of about 500 Russian soldiers crossed the border to defend the population from possible ground attacks by troops German.
- Biedermann. A 16th century country log house which offers a cultural taste of rural life around 1900. There is also a branch of the Vaduz National Museum.
- parish church (In the Mittelschellenberg district). The parish church was built between 1960-1963 and has architectural importance thanks to its historical monuments. The bells of the church tower were donated by the Elkuch family.
- Chapel of San Giorgio (In the Hinterschellenberg district). This 1700s chapel was renovated in the years 1980-1981.
- Ruins of the Schellenberg castles. Schellenberg Upper Castle dates back to 1200 and is the larger of the two. During the Appenzell War, the castle was destroyed and then rebuilt. Schellenberg Lower Castle was built in 1250. The castles were abandoned from the 16th century. Since the mid-19th century, they have been used as quarries for the construction of the old parish church. In 1956 they became a protected historical site.
