Ruggell (Ruggäll in Alemannic) is a city of Liechtenstein.
To know
Geographical notes
It borders to the north of the city of Feldkirch (Austria), to the east with Schellenberg, south of Gamprin, and to the west Sennwald (Switzerland, Canton of St. Gallen).
While Liechtenstein is known as a predominantly mountainous country, Ruggell is largely flat and lies at the foot of the Eschnerberg Mountains along the Rhine River, where international borders meet the Switzerland and theAustria.
When to go
It has a mild alpine climate. Temperatures range from -15 ° C in winter and above 30 ° C in summer.
Background
The name Ruggell dates back to 933 AD. The history of the city is closely linked to the Rhine and above all to its floods, which on several occasions caused serious damage to what was at the time an agricultural village. Today, few farmers are still left, so the image of the country's idyllic "romantic village" has disappeared, giving way to squares and houses with manicured gardens.
