Shiyata (also Shiyata, Shiatta, Shayyata, Arabic:شياطة) Is a 2.5 kilometer long saline spring lake 20 kilometers west-northwest of Bahī ed-Dīn in the extreme west of the egyptian Sink Siwa. The lake is only 15 kilometers from the Libyan border.
getting there
To get there you can take the asphalt road to Bahī ed-Dīn, which is laid out on the north side of Lake Siwa, use. The following route is already a small desert excursion through a sandy desert with limestone hills crisscrossed. It is possible to have both shiyāṭa and shiyāṭa in one day Biʾr Wāḥid to seek out. Of course, you need an all-terrain four-wheel drive vehicle for this excursion.
A special permit from the military is required to visit Shiyāṭa. The tourist information office in the city Siwa helps with the acquisition. The application period usually does not take longer than a day.
There are several minefields from the 1930s and 1970s near the Libyan border.
Tourist Attractions
1 Shiyāṭa(29 ° 19 ′ 31 ″ N.25 ° 9 '26 "E) is one of the largest source lakes in the Siwa Basin. It measures about two and a half kilometers from west to east and is larger than the lakes of Biʾr Wāḥid. The lake is seven meters deep. Its water is very salty. Most of the bank is covered with reeds. However, grasses, bushes and palm trees also grow a little further away. In the immediate vicinity of the bank, however, the plants have died.
Don't miss a stop at one 2 Limestone cliffs(29 ° 16 '44 "N.25 ° 18 ′ 15 ″ E) about 5 kilometers northwest of Bahī ed-Dīn to insert. On the roof of the approximately 130 meter long hill there are several footprints from prehistoric times (more in the article Bahī ed-Dīn).

Diving is possible in the lake. However, there is no local infrastructure. Due to the high salt content, a significantly higher taring weight is required.
In the lake, Dr. Ashraf Sabry, owner of Alexandra Dive, found a pharaonic sun boat.

There are restaurants in the nearby town Siwa. There is one on the south side of the lake 1 small shelter(29 ° 19 ′ 13 ″ N.25 ° 9 '42 "E)suitable for a picnic. However, waste must be taken back with you.

Accommodation is available in the nearby town Siwa. An overnight stay on site, either in Shiyāṭa or in Biʾr Wāḥid, is not permitted.
