background
Sittwe (former name: Akyab) is the capital of the Rakhine State. The city serves as the starting point for the boat trip to the old royal capital Mrauk U. Otherwise the place is rather uninteresting for tourists. Due to the fact that few tourists come to the city, the English language skills of the locals are rather rudimentary.

Due to the great distance and the still poor condition of the roads, a trip to Sittwe is not recommended. Of Yangon off it's a two-day trip.
By boat
From and to Yangon runs a ship. The trip takes two days. There is also a ship connection to Taungup. The boat runs the route on Thursday and Saturday.
