Sonora it is a state Mexican in the territory of Northern Mexico.
To know
While it is not a major travel plan for many people, it is not an unattractive state.
Geographical notes
It borders to the north with the United States (Arizona) and with the Mexican state of Baja California, to the east with the state of Chihuahua, south with the Sinaloa and is bathed by the Gulf of California to the west.
Much of the state's territory is occupied by the Sonoran Desert.

The State of Sonora is administratively divided into 72 municipalities.
Urban centers
- Hermosillo - Capital of the State of Sonora with nearly one million inhabitants.
- Agua Prieta - Border town with Douglas, Arizona.
- Bay of Kino - A small but beautiful seaside community close to Hermosillo. Bahía de Kino has beautiful beaches in a truly peaceful setting.
- Banámichi - A small pueblo on the Rio Sonora, founded in 1639.
- Ciudad Obregón - A pretty new city.
- Desemboque - Overlooking the Gulf of California.
- Guaymas - Seaside town dedicated to fishing.
- Navojoa - Located in the Mayo River Valley.
- Nogales - Border town, 50 minutes south of Tucson, Arizona.
- Puerto Peñasco - Called "Rocky Point" by the Americans, it is the closest seaside resort to Arizona.
- San Luis Río Colorado - Border town.
- Álamos - A lovely colonial town.

- Great Altar Desert - A desert that stretches between Sonora and the Baja California.
- Tiburón Island (Isla del Tiburón or Isla Tiburón) - One of the main natural refuges and sanctuaries of Mexico.
- Islands and protected areas of the Gulf of California - A world heritage site ofUNESCO, in common with three other Mexican states.
- El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and the Great Altar Desert - Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage SiteUNESCO in Sonora, just south of the border of the United States of America. A wonderful example of a desert landscape.

At the table
- Carnivores will find excellent ones tacos with meat asada. The people of the region are rightfully proud of their beef industry.
- TO Hermosillo you can find a decent variety of "night food", which includes meat tacos asada, hotdog in the style of Sonora, Percheron butter (a burrito enormous size), "fondas"traditional and even sushi in some places.
- TO Ciudad Obregón everyone should try the "tacos cebositos", one of the specialties of the city or take some coconut in" La Laguna del Nainari ", as well as one Horchata de coco.
Drinks
- Local brandy is good and cheap.
- Just like the Jalisco has tequila, Sonora has bacanora, another drink made from the distillation of agave. It is a rather popular drink in northwestern Mexico. It is mainly produced in the area of Bacanora located in the Sierra de Sonora region.
