South (Florida) - Sul (Flórida)

South Florida is a region of Florida, US USA. It includes a vast and diverse area from quiet and sparsely populated central areas with an "Old Florida" air to large, vibrant tourist cities.

Regions

  • Florida Gold Coast - This three-county region sometimes called "South Florida "South Florida", consisting of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties on the Atlantic coast. This is most of the southeast region. Usually when people talk about to South Florida they refer to the Gold Coast especially in the media).
  • Treasure Coast - North of the Gold Coast consisting of Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties.
  • Southwest Florida - The Gulf Coast counties are Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, Collier and Monroe.
  • Florida Heartland - These are inland counties in South Florida. These counties are extremely rural, especially compared to the bustling centers along the coast, and are much more economically reliant on agriculture and cattle raising than tourism. They are the most cultural part of the South.
  • Florida Keys - An archipelago with around 1,700 islands ranging from Miami to Key West.

Some of the biggest cities in South Florida are:

  • Fort Myers- Fort Myers and Sanibel beaches and the exotic beaches of the Captiva Islands.
  • Hollywood - Seminole Indian Reservation
  • Key West - Deep sea saltwater fishing, kayaking, scuba diving and other dives.
  • Miami - Oars, water sports, glass bottom boats, deep sea diving, cruises.
  • Naples- Enjoy Gulf of Mexico beaches, world-class shopping, gulf travel and the untamed wild tropicality of the Everglades.
  • Port Charlotte Hurricane Charley on August 13, 2004 hit this area severely. 20,000 roofs needed repairs and the trade moved to trailers. Anyway, this area is on its way to recovery.
  • Sarasota - Casey Key, Longboat Key, Lido Key, Siesta Key, Venice, Manasota Key, Ringling Brothers Circus Museum.
  • vero beach- Disney's Vero Beach tourist community with priorities in art, education, culture and lifestyles.
  • palm beach- The island of Palm Beach offers pristine beaches with brilliant views of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Miami Beach

South Florida has a climate dry-and-wet sub-tropical, cold fronts from November to March and most of the year is hot and humid. The dry season starts in October and lasts until the third week of May. The hurricane season officially runs from June 1st to November 30th. The most favorable time for South Florida to be reached is from mid-August to the end of September.

By airplane

Miami International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, is the main airport serving the metropolitan region of Miami. Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, and Sarasota they also have major airports.

Of boat

Seaside cities have excellent marine facilities all year round, typically servicing the most luxurious yachts in the world. Miami is home to the Port of Miami, the largest cruise port in the world. Fort Lauderdale also has a cruise port.

By car

  • THE Interstate 75 - Interstate 75 runs from south to North Florida via the eastern suburb of Cover, Sarasota, Fort Myers and Naples, until crossing the "Alligator Alley" as a toll road into Fort Lauderdale before turning south and ending up in Miami Lakes.
  • THE Interstate 95 - Interstate 95 continues from the southern Atlantic Coast of the eastern US through cities in the Treasure Coast to West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale ending in downtown Miami.

Public transportation - Local public transport includes Metrobus, Metromover and Metrorail — an elevated and rapid transit system — all operated by Miami-Dade Transit. There is also a community rail system called Tri-Rail, which runs north and south from the MIA (airport) through all of West Palm Beach, stopping at all three of the Gold Coast's international airports.
