In the years 1975-1998, the village administratively belonged to the then Słupsk Province. The showcase of the region are the impressive half-timbered houses - "checked" and the region is called "the land of the checkered".

The village is located about 15 km north-west of Słupsk, by the road SłupskDarłowowith preserved elements of medieval forms of buildings, incl. a habitat cornfield on an oval plan, spatial development, roads and buildings. This is a model example of Pomeranian oval shapes, which were planned in the early Middle Ages. The main axis of the oval plan is parallel to the direction of the stream flowing through the village. On this watercourse, called Zielona Struga, water was dammed up and a small pond was created, which for centuries served economic and recreational functions. The oval square, together with the church and the pond, is flat, and the surrounding area is formed by the gentle slopes of the valley. This was used when composing farm buildings and the concept of field layouts. Residential houses occupy the highest situated areas, the homesteads are behind the residential houses in the background.

It is one of the historically most interesting villages in On the sea, recognized as the European Village of Cultural Heritage and the capital of "Checkered lands". There are preserved objects here frame construction (half-timbered) from the beginning of the 19th century, typical of wealthy Pomeranian peasant farms. Most of the houses, but also stables, cowsheds and barns are built using the half-timbered method.

The village was first mentioned in 1230 on the occasion of its granting Order of the Knights Hospitaller, confirmed in 1240 by Świętopełka II, in 1474 the village became the property of the Duke of Słupsk Erica II. From the 17th century under the administration of Słupsk as a royal village. The expropriation of the peasants was carried out here around 1820.

Most of the half-timbered structures over 150 years old have survived here. There are plaques with information about their history on the buildings.
