Tel - the thirteenth-century town in Czechia, in the country of Vysočina, in the district of Igława in Moravia.

Characteristic

Telč is a lovely, rather quiet city. Certainly worth a stop if you are passing nearby, but there are not enough facilities to justify more than a short stay, unless you are interested in history or architecture - it is the best preserved of all Czech and Moravian Renaissance cities and the historical heart of the city has been inscribed in 1992 on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. It is astonishingly beautiful thanks to the fishponds surrounding it which prevented the town from spreading, thus preserving the perfect town square, built in the 16th century. There is also an interesting palace from the same period.

Drive

By plane

The closest airport is Prague Airport. The airlines PLL LOT and Czech Airlines offer direct flights from Warsaw, and Ryanair from Krakow.

By rail

Railway connection from Kostelec near Jihlava (Wolframs) nearby Needles (Iglau). Near Ceske Budejovice (Budweis), Český Krumlov (Krumau), Brno (Bruenn) i Linz. Trains move quite slowly in this relation. The fastest option is to combine train and bus, see online timetable.

By car

Telč is a local road. It is situated on the national road No. 23 České Budějovice-Brno.

About five minutes walk from the city center there is a relatively large 1 parkingwhere you can leave your car; Tour buses also seem to stop here. The car park uses a typical automated system found elsewhere in Europe that accepts coins and issues a coupon left on the vehicle's dashboard. Signs on the roads leading to Telč direct travelers directly to the parking lot.

By bus

WITH Prague there is at least one direct bus a day. All other options (especially) by train mean several transfers. A rather cheap option is to travel from Prague to Iglawa (150 Kč by bus Student Agencywhich provide free electric sockets, free tea and free Wi-Fi on board), and then from Igawa to Telč (42 Kč, very frequent local buses).

Communication

Telc is small. You can see it all on foot. Most of the interesting parts of Telč are found in the irregularly shaped square in the city center. There are some scenic views of the old moat outside the center.

There are many shops, art galleries and tourist traps on the ground floor of many Renaissance houses.

Note that two rather small grocery stores close at 5:30 PM at the latest. After that, only a small and quite expensive Vietnamese shop on the edge of the old town remains open (until 21:00).

A Tesco supermarket on the outskirts of the city, but still within walking distance of the city center (Myslibořská 299), is open daily from 7 am to 9 pm.
