From Chiang Rai it is almost 90 kilometers, for which you need a good 1½ hours; from Chiang Mai almost 180 kilometers, travel time over three hours.

By boat

There is a regular boat service on the Kok River to / from Chiang Rai, but this is more recommended for the return journey to Chiang Rai (downstream) than for the outward journey to Tha Ton (upstream). The route is very scenic. The boats dock on the southern side of the river. There are also a number of guest houses near the pier. The journey downriver takes three to 3½ hours (upriver approx. Five hours) and costs 350 baht with the public boat. Departure from Tha Ton is daily at 12.30 p.m., but only if there are at least four passengers. Not in May to July because of the low water level. Alternatively, there are also private boat providers, but the price is many times that with them.

mobility

Chankasem Guest House rents out scooters for 400 THB, for several days, 300 THB / day can be negotiated. The scooters are checked for defects / scratches when they are returned, so check the condition carefully when you rent them.
