Tuxtla Gutiérrez (sometimes only Tuxtla) is the capital of the federal state Mexican of the Chiapas.
To know
Tuxtla Gutiérrez is a fairly new city that owns Chiapas' main airport. The city itself is not particularly interesting, but it is ideal for those wishing to visit one of the more historic cities located nearby.
The name of the city is composed. Tuxla derives from tuchtlan, which in Nahuatl means "where rabbits abound"; Gutiérrez instead was added in honor of Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez, who at the beginning of the nineteenth century managed to prevent the city from being annexed to the Guatemala.
How to orient yourself
How to get
By plane
Tuxtla Ángel Albino Corzo Airport is located 30 km from the city center. A taxi to Tuxtla city center costs $ 20. Taxis are part of a government taxi cartel. You will have to buy a taxi ticket inside the airport.
Even if i colectivos they do not go all the way to the airport itself, they pass through a street within walking distance of the parking lot and cost much less than a taxi.
There are direct buses from the airport to San Cristobal de las Casas. Priced at 210 pesos (June 2015) with various daily trips that take an hour and a quarter. Timetables and prices updated on TicketBus.

What to do
Shopping
Things in Tuxtla are reasonably cheap and affordable as the prices are in line with the poor living conditions of the indigenous people living there. Despite this, it is a very modern city, with many things to do and see. There are a lot of shopping malls to shop and items are very cheap there too.
How to have fun

Average prices
- Casa Blanca (Close to the Quality Inn on 5th Norte). Delicious tacos pork, cheap, clean and fast.
Where stay
The facilities in Tuxtla are generally of very low quality and often very expensive. If possible, we recommend that you avoid sleeping in Tuxtla. Chiapa de Corzo it is a good alternative when looking for accommodation nearby.
