Uçhisar is a city in Cappadocia in the Turkey.

Uçhisar Castle in the Rock

This small, tranquil place has a population of around 4,000. They mainly earn their living from agriculture. The tourist share increases year after year, but the tourist activity is not with the in Goreme comparable. In recent years there has been an increasing number of immigrants from France, so that just as much French is spoken here as Turkish.

Uçhisar is known for its rock castle, which can still be seen from afar and is criss-crossed by caves.

By bus

There is a Dolmuş connection on the bypass to Goreme. There is a direct bus connection to the central village square Nevşehir. In summer there is also a connection with Antalya, Konya and Kayseri

By car

If you follow the 300 from Nevşehir to Urgup after about 3 km turn left towards Uçhisar and reach the place after a few hundred meters.

You can also move comfortably to and from Uçhisar in the dolmuş. At the village square you can also rent bicycles, horses or cars from Görtur (Tel.:0384/2712211).

  • Castle rock. The attraction in Uçhisar is the castle rock, which is 60 meters high and invites you to discover it. Crisscrossed with numerous corridors and rooms, for € 1.60 it not only reveals one or the other secret, but also invites you to a fantastic view over the pigeon valley (Güvercin Vadisi) and the love valley (Aşk Vadisi).
  • Güvercin Vadisi. Pigeon Valley. This valley got its name thanks to the many dovecotes. To do this, follow the road to Ürgüp. At the Göreme Onyx Factory, follow the signs “Hiking Trail Pidgeon Valley” or the orange markings. As in all of Cappadocia, these are set very sparsely.
  • Aşk Vadisi. Love valley. This valley got its name thanks to the original tuff formations. Here you follow the road to Göreme. At the Onyx Factory Özler you have to follow the dirt road to the left. On the left there are several entrances into the valley. Patience is required here. If you want to avoid involuntary slides on tuff, you should wait for the sign and only then enter the valley.

Incidentally, the highest point is not just a good lookout point over Goreme and the surrounding valleys, but one of the most beautiful points in Cappadocia, to watch the sunset and the resulting play of colors on the tuff rock formations.
