The construction of an administrative capital in the east of Cairo was started on March 13, 2015 at the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in Sharm esch-Sheikh proclaimed by the Egyptian government.[1] Construction is expected to take 7 years and cost around US $ 45 billion. The government buildings, ministries and foreign embassies are to be housed in the city.
In the first phase, which has been running since April 2016, the infrastructure facilities are to be built. The work is expected to be completed in the early 2020s. In addition to roads and bridges, a gas-fired power plant is currently being built by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and Siemens, which will provide an output of 4800 MW.
In the future, 7 million people will live in the 700 square kilometer city.
