Vesterålen is an archipelago located north of the Norway, beautiful region of Norland.
To know
In Vesterålen nature has always remained more or less uncontaminated, there are still mountain forests (even if some have been cut down for paper production) or grasslands where animals live peacefully. There are also numerous fjords and glaciers.
When to go
The Vesterålen lie beyond the Arctic Circle. Despite this, the climate is characterized by rather mild temperatures mainly thanks to the Gulf Stream. The minimum temperature recorded in 2009 was -13.1 ° C on 7 February, while the maximum was 26.6 ° C on 3 August. The lowest average monthly temperatures in 2009 were recorded in December (-0.8 ° C) and February (-2 ° C).
Given the latitude, the Vesterålen are affected by the phenomenon of the midnight sun and considered an excellent observation point for the Northern Lights.
