Northern Vietnam (or Tonkin, in VietnameseBắc Bộ) a region Vietnamese.

To know

Northern Vietnam has fewer visitors than the city of Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) and the seaside towns along the southern coast, but it is a region full of culture. Historically, but also today, it has been significantly poorer than the southern territories.

Culturally and politically it has important differences. Linguistically they have a different pronunciation which somehow sounds more authoritative than it does in cities.

The largest city is its capital, Hanoi, and it is the only attraction around here, but there are numerous other sites of interest like the Ha Long Bay, the mountain resort of Sapa, and the historic battleground of Dien Bien Phu.
