Geographical notes

The island is crossed by a mountain range from north to south which reaches the maximum elevation of the archipelago in Mount Tomaniivi (Mount Victoria) which reaches 1,324 meters in height.

When to go

The eastern part of the island is very rainy thanks to the trade winds and is covered by dense forests, unlike the western part which receives much less rain.

Territories and tourist destinations

The northern coast of Viti Levu offers spectacular landscapes especially around Vaileka. It is known as the coast of the sun due to its drier climate than anywhere else. However, it has few tourist infrastructures.

On the other hand, the west and south coasts are more developed. The hotels are mainly concentrated in the stretch of coast called "Costa di Corallo" but it is the offshore islands that have the most beautiful landscapes and the best seabeds, in particular Beqa and its lagoon.

Urban centers

  • Nadi - Developed around the international airport, Nadi is one of the tourist centers with the greatest infrastructure and is also the base for a visit to the nearby Koroyanitu National Park.
  • Suva - Capital of Fiji.

King's Road

  • Ba - A large village with a majority of Indo-Fijians of Muslim faith, Ba stands on the delta of the river of the same name among mangrove forests. It can be the basis for excursions to the traditional villages of the interior, going up the river.
  • Korovu
  • Lautoka
  • Nananu i Ra - At the northern end of Viti Levu, Nananu-I-Ra is a small island that has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty.
