Vitry-le-François is a city in French Department Marne in the region Grand Est (historical region: Champagne-Ardenne). The city on the Marne and the Marne Lateral Canal (Canal latéral à la Marne) is the seat of a sub-prefecture.

The fortress town founded by King Francis I in the middle of the 16th century as a replacement for the city of Vitry-en-Perthois, which was destroyed in 1544 and is located 4 km to the east, is the capital of the Perthois region and lies on a wide, fertile plain. The city complex was planned by the Bolognese engineer Girolamo Marini. In the second world victory it was 90% destroyed, but rebuilt according to the original plan.

- Saint-Armand-sur-Flon. The community, 10 km to the north, has five mills. The church was donated for the canons of the Cathedrals of Châlons. The portal and parts of the nave have been preserved from the original Romanesque building.
