Wallenstein is a small place in the Knüllgebirge, administratively it belongs to the municipality Knüllwald and lies in Hessian Schwalm-Eder district.
background
The place was first mentioned in 1223 as "Waldensteyn". The name goes back to a spur castle, which was probably built in the 12th century, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and today only in parts as Wallenstein castle ruins is preserved.

Wallenstein is not far from the

Homberg (Efze) only a few kilometers away.

The place is poorly connected to public transport. On weekdays and Saturday mornings there are connections with line 426 des North Hessian Transport Associationwhich, however, are partly run as a collective call taxi. The nearest long-distance train stations are Wobble and Schwalmstadt-Treysa, each about 25 km away.

- 1 Lochbachklamm - A 1.3 km long hiking trail leads along numerous small bridges or over the Lochbach, which overcomes a total of 150 meters in altitude in a wooded area. The narrow path leads over 16 wooden bridges.
- 2 Natural swimming pool - Below the castle hill is the natural pool Wallenstein, which invites you to swim when the weather is nice, entry 2 € (children 1 €), campsite guests free
- Jousting - Since 2000, knight games have been held on and around the castle ruins on a weekend at the end of July / beginning of August. The organizer has been the Knüll tourism.
