Wallenstein is a small place in the Knüllgebirge, administratively it belongs to the municipality Knüllwald and lies in Hessian Schwalm-Eder district.

background

The place was first mentioned in 1223 as "Waldensteyn". The name goes back to a spur castle, which was probably built in the 12th century, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and today only in parts as Wallenstein castle ruins is preserved.

getting there

Wallenstein is not far from the A7 and is from the Symbol: AS Homberg (Efze) only a few kilometers away.

The place is poorly connected to public transport. On weekdays and Saturday mornings there are connections with line 426 des North Hessian Transport Associationwhich, however, are partly run as a collective call taxi. The nearest long-distance train stations are Wobble and Schwalmstadt-Treysa, each about 25 km away.

  • Jousting - Since 2000, knight games have been held on and around the castle ruins on a weekend at the end of July / beginning of August. The organizer has been the Knüll tourism.
