Hiking on designated long-distance trails is still a relatively new concept in Turkey. The Turkish Tourist Office is assuming around 5000 km of marked “cultural routes” in 2015,[1] some of which are also designed for cyclists or riders. Many paths have been identified by local initiatives and only later received support from government agencies. Cappadocia has long been a region that has been used for day hikes, including on horseback.
Exact map material for Turkey is difficult to obtain due to military secrecy Soviet general staff maps have to fall back.
