(1002-1024) gave rich land holdings in Wassenberg and Kleve to the Flemish noblemen Gerhard and Rüdiger von Antoing for their services. The lords von Wassenberg, Heinsberg, Geldern and Krickenbeck are descended from this family.

On January 1, 1972, the municipal reorganization also resulted in a reorganization of the city of Wassenberg with the districts of Wassenberg, Birgelen, Myhl, Orsbeck, Effeld and Ophoven.

The open river valley of the Rur and the wooded slopes of the Wassenberger Horst characterize the charming landscape of the urban area of Wassenberg. Coniferous, deciduous and extensive swamp forests merge into the open, agriculturally used areas. More than 35% of the urban area is covered with forest. Wassenberg looks forward to your visit.
