Westhalten is a village Alsatian located in the Noble Valley and on the Alsace wine route, in a green setting at the foot of Strangenberg and Bollenberg.

Understand

Westhalten means "the western slopes of Stragenberg" ("West" = west and "Halden" = slopes) in relation to Rouffach. The village was part of the Mundat of the bishops of Strasbourg, bailiwick of Rouffach, and formed a mixed community depending on the city of Rouffach and the municipality of Soultzmatt. There was no village court and court cases were settled by the magistrate of the supervisory municipalities. This is the reason why Westhalten did not have a seal or coat of arms before 1792.
