From there it is about 12 hours by train, which costs between 300 and 4000 Russian rubles (approx. 9-120 €) depending on the comfort and type of train. The cheapest way is via the Baltic States, as easyJet, airBaltic and RyanAir are cheap Flights from 15 € to e.g. Riga to offer. From here it is about 17 hours by train on the Latvian State Railways Latvijas dzelzceļš to Moscow and from there to Voronezh as described. The long travel time is gladly accepted for these prices, especially since you can take many different impressions with you.

In Voronezh there is a chaotic system of trams, taxis, marshrutkas (small collective buses), trolley buses (trolley buses) and public service buses. The tram is probably the most unpopular means of transport and it looks like it has not been renovated since its introduction. Accordingly, you can see fewer than a handful of passengers on the trains, even at the main train station and at the busiest time of day. Your traffic was stopped around 2008. The small shared buses are much more popular (маршрутка) which only cost around 11 rubles for a trip within the city. A little knowledge of Russian is required, as you have to make it clear to the driver that you want to get off at the next stop. You should negotiate the price with the taxi drivers before starting your journey, as it can happen that they ask a stranger twice or three times the price.

activities
shop
Shopping in Voronezh is hardly a problem anymore. You can buy everything here that you can get in Germany. The shops are almost everywhere open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Shopping markets as they are mostly found in Germany are seldom to be found here. The shops mostly work by ordering over the counter, with the counters being divided into different categories such as dairy products, fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, baked goods, etc. So you have to be able to show some knowledge of Russian here too. The fast food chain "Russkij Appetit" (Русскийй аппетит) has distributed around the clock small snacks at an acceptable price throughout the city. A special highlight is a visit to the central market. Here you can get everything your heart desires when it comes to groceries. Here, animals are cut up into ready-to-sell bites in front of the visitors and fresh fruits are lovingly stacked to form pyramids. Usually you can get the goods cheaper here than in the shops.
kitchen
In some restaurants you can enjoy typical Russian specialties such as pelmeni, blini, soljanka, borscht (cabbage soup). Unfortunately, the number of fast food restaurants is increasing significantly compared to ordinary restaurants. They are often overcrowded and the staff seem overwhelmed.
nightlife
There are some clubs in Voronezh to go out, but locals advise against them, as Voronezh is said to have become one of the three most xenophobic cities in Russia in recent years. The xenophobia, however, does not apply to Germans, as they are generally quite popular (as in the rest of Russia). A popular and peaceful meeting place for Voronezh's youth is the square in front of the Dram Theater (Театр драмы), where several hundred young people often gather. Admiralsplatz is also popular (Адмиралтейская Площадь), where with a little luck you can watch some fire-eaters and musicians. They are a small group of artists who present themselves in different places.
