How to orient yourself
Zug overlooks the Lake of Zug. The old town is located south of the station in the named part Altstadt. Further south we find Mount Zugerberg which dominates the city.

By plane
The nearest airport is that of Zurich.
By car
The A4 motorway and other main roads connect Zug with the rest of the country.
There are several landings for private boats.
- 1 Ferry terminal (Zug Bahnhofsteg). Ferries to Arth am See and other locations.
On the train
- 2 Zug station, Bahnhofplatz, ☎ 41 900 300 300. Trains every half hour from Zurich, Brunnen or Lucerne. Also easily accessible from the Canton of Ticino.
By bus
Links with Flixbus with Munich in about 5 hours.

The city is small enough to be discovered on foot.
By public transport
- 3 Funicular to the Zugerberg mountain. Accessible via bus 11. This funicular takes you to the top of the mountain.
What see
- 1 old City (Altstadt). Very picturesque with old buildings and several squares.
- 2 clock tower (Zyytturm), Kolinplatz. free (Jul 2018). Tue-Sat. This tower was initially part of the city walls. Its unique features are the blue roof and the astronomical clock. To visit it, you get the key with a deposit from the nearby Wunderbox at Fischmarkt 10 or (outside opening hours) from the Restaurant Intermezzo at Grabenstrasse 6. On Mondays, the key is available from the library in St.-Oswalds -Gasse 21 free.

What to do
- 1 Outdoor cinema. Fr.16. In July and August there are films shown outdoors near the lake shore.
- 2 Walk through Zug. Close to the old town, you can stroll along Lake Zug. Zug has one of the most beautiful sunsets in Switzerland, because the sun sets over the lake.

In Zug the best things you can buy are food and pastry:
- The famous Zuger Kirschtorte (a cake full of kirsch). Places to buy it: Konditorei Meier, Konditorei Treichler / Heini
- Speckli (almond-flavored pie). Places to buy it: Konfiserie Speck (speck.ch).
- Bsetzi Stei (small chocolates with a little alcoholic flavor). Places to buy it: Aeschbacher Chocolatier

- 2 Restaurant Bären, Baarerstrasse 30 (Next to the station), ☎ 41 41 711 09 43. This is a very old restaurant. The interior is still the same as it was decades ago and will take you back in time. The food is tasty and you get a large portion.
- 3 Restaurant Brandenberg (Wirtschaft Brandenberg), Allmendstrasse 3 (Next to the youth hostel), ☎ 41 41 711 95 96. This is an institution in Zug. Once a farmers' restaurant, this place is extremely popular in the summer, when you can have a beer outside under the trees. During the "Stierenmärt is full of farmers, a true authentic Swiss experience.
- 4 Restaurant Freimann, Letzi 27 (Out of town, near a farm), ☎ 41 41 741 35 10. This restaurant has the rustic charm of a farmer's house in the countryside. In the summer it is a pleasure to sit in the beer garden under the trees, have a beer and eat a "Cordon Bleu". The menu covers the whole range of good Swiss food. The restaurant inside is quite small. On weekends it is advisable to reserve your table, especially if you want to eat inside.
