In 40 BC,MauritaniaKing Yuba II sent an expedition team here and saw that there were many huge dogs on the island, so he called the islands Canary Island, which means "Island of Dogs." The existing residents of the Canary Islands are called Canarians, which are mixed races of Spanish and their descendants with local residents. They are fighting for independence and democratic rights. There was a long-term struggle with the Spanish authorities. In 1902, the Spanish authorities suppressed the movement of local residents demanding autonomy. During the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939, the island was the active base of Franco elements. In order to resist the fascist rule of F. Franco, the people on the island established the "Canary Islands Autonomous Movement" in 1960. geography

The Canary Islands are divided into two island groups: the West Island Group consists of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and Ferro Islands, composed of peaks directly raised from the deep sea bed. The East Island Group consists of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and 6 small islands uplifted on a submarine highland called the Canary Ridge.

The islands of Canary are rugged and mountainous, with steep coasts. The West Island Group has a higher terrain. The Teide (active volcano) on Tenerife is the highest peak at 3,718 meters above sea level. The east island group has a low terrain, the closest to the African continent, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the highest point is less than 730 meters above sea level. The climate is mild and dry, and the annual precipitation is only 200-400 mm.

In the Canary Islands, certain goods are much cheaper than mainland Spain, because these islands do not levy Spanish sales tax. These products include, for example, gasoline (1 liter, 1.08 euros,November 2012), also includes perfume, cigarettes and some other popular travel goods. These items are rarely worth buying in duty-free shops. The prices in most shops on the island are comparable.
