history

Travel experiencedAmericaThe reporter Richard Harding Davis (1864-1916) once said that "Morocco is an excellent country steeped in a high degree of civilization." Regardless of whether this is true or not, Morocco today is one of the most advanced Muslim countries, maintaining close economic and cultural ties with the free Western countries, while also maintaining its own civilized characteristics. Although there were people living in this land of Morocco long ago, including towns established by Phoenicians, Carthage, Rome, and Vandals, the country remained until the Berber Revolution (739-743) overthrew it. The Arab rule was unified for the first time. Under the successor Islamic Caliphate, Morocco ruled the vast Maghreb, Northwest Africa including the Atlas Mountains and Rif Mountains, Western Sahara, and the southern coast of the Mediterranean. In 1554, Mohammed Sheikh, Sultan of the Saad Dynasty, became the ruler of Morocco. In the next century, Morocco successfully prevented European and Ottoman Turkish invasions and became the only Arab country not under Ottoman rule. In the 17th century, the Allawi dynasty replaced the Saad dynasty, and this dynasty continued to rule with a constitutional monarchy. Although Morocco has been a protectorate of France and Spain for fifty years, it became independent again in 1956.

geography

Most of the terrain in Morocco today is high mountains; the Rif Mountains are adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea and stretch from the northwest to the northeast, while the Atlas Mountains also extend from the northeast through central Morocco to the southwest. The Western Sahara Desert covers most of the southeastern part of the country. The Maghreb lies between the Atlas Mountains in the north and the Mediterranean coast.

The plains along the coast have been planted in large quantities since the earliest residents came to this area. The Rif Mountains are relatively barren, and the vegetation is grass and moss, but the higher Atlas Mountains are rich in oak, juniper, and cedar forests. In addition, in most historical records, there are also many hunting animals. On the contrary, there are only sand dunes and rocky surfaces on the Sahara, with occasional oasis interspersed among them. When other peoples live along the rich coastline, the steep Rif Mountains and Atlas Mountains have given the Berber aboriginal people a good opportunity to rise.

climate

The climate is Mediterranean; the south is the dry Sahara. Therefore, the northern part of Morocco is wet and cold in winter and dry and warm in summer, while the Sahara is extremely hot and has little rainfall.
