Etoile-sur-Rhône is a French community from department of Drôme in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Understand
The town has existed since Roman times and extends to the banks of the Rhône. The historic village, perched, is made up of narrow streets and a heritage that bears witness to its long history. A wall pierced by six gates, the entrances of which are still visible today, has long protected the village from external aggressions.

Patrimony
- 1 City Hall 45 main street – On the building occupied by the town hall are carved the arms of the town with its motto Non Licet Omnibus (it is not allowed at all).
- 2 Sainte-Catherine Chapel rue de l'Hôpital – This chapel was part of a larger set including the hospital of the municipality, present from the XIVe century, but largely destroyed by the Huguenots.
- 3 Temple rise of the temple – This temple, which still hosts religious ceremonies today (United Protestant Church), is designed according to the classical architecture of the region: the building is rectangular, surmounted by a triangular pediment.
- 4 Pillory Great Street – This post was used to publicly exhibit convicts until 1789. It is made up of three elements: a pedestal, a cylindrical shaft and a column. At its base is now a fountain.
- 5 Notre-Dame Church church Square – Built from XIIe century, this Romanesque church will evolve over time with the addition of chapels and an enhancement of the coachman in the XVIIe century following a fire. On the north portal of the church is a marble plaque on which is engraved in Latin the Franchisee charter which evokes the privileges granted by the Aymar III account of Poitiers to the Etoiliens by the absence of any tax.
- 6 Grain measure Great Street – In the Middle Ages, this pierced stone forming three receptacles allowed inhabitants to measure the quantity of grains.
- 7 Old Cure Ventecul Street – The oldest part of this building was built around the XIIIe century, then an extension came to complete the building at the end of the XVIIe century.
- 8 Chapel of the Penitents rue de la Roche – This old chapel was used by the brotherhood of the White Penitents, it also served as a meeting room for the Friends of Liberty during the post-Revolution period. Today it no longer has religious use.
- 9 Castel Sant'Angelo rue du Monestier – Built in XVe century, this manor was owned by the Protestant Saint-Ange family. It has a weapons room which was used for the military organization of the municipality.
- 10 Renaissance Tower place Léo Lerisse – This four-storey cylindrical tower has spiral staircases. It has been integrated since the start of the XXe century in a private building.
- 11 Covered fountain Great Street – This covered fountain dates from the Middle Ages.
- 12 Federation monument Federation Square – This monument recalls the commitment of the Étoiliens in the French Revolution at the time of the assembly of November 29, 1789. It is built in blue stone of Chomerac.
- 13 To see her Federation Square – Made at XVIIIe century, this wash-house has undergone a displacement and modifications in order to make it more and more practical for the washing machines.
- 14 Castle park boulevard de la Puya – This municipal park overlooks the town and offers a remarkable point of view. Below are the last vestiges of the castle of Diane de Poitiers which was the main part of the citadel of Étoile-sur-Rhône.

It was part of a network linking Lyon to Marseille which then made it possible to transmit messages over long distances. It is surmounted by a mechanism consisting of a mast of 7.68 m incorporating a ladder allowing access to the moving parts and carrying out their maintenance, a main arm called the 4.65 m long on 0.35 m wide, with two wings called indicators of 2 m long on 0.30 m wide and counterweight for each indicator called ranges. The exterior of the building is accessible free of charge.
