The region Arcadia (Αρκαδία / Arkadía) is the central mountainous region of the Peloponnese in Greece and borders on all other regional districts of the peninsula. Lying in the south Laconia and Messenia, located in the west Elis, in the north it is Achaia, Corinthia and Argolis. In the east the region has access to the Aegean Sea. The capital of the region is Tripoli.

Arcadia is divided into the 5 municipal districts of Gortynia, Megalopolis, North Kynouria (Βόρεια Κυνουρία), South Kynouria (Νότια Κυνουρία) and Tripoli. The mountain range is located in the northern part of Arcadia Menalo (also Mainalo), its highest peak is 1981 m high and is called - as several of the highest mountains in Greece are called - Profiti Iliad (Prophet Elias). The eastern part of Arcadia lies between the coast of the Argolic Gulf and the slopes of the Parnon Mountains.

Arcadia was considered a people of shepherds in antiquity, who were allowed to live their lives freely, happily and contentedly without great effort. This transfigured idea of the shepherd's idyll in the home of the shepherd god Pan lasted until modern times.
The untouched nature of Arcadia and the seclusion of the valleys do not only have positive aspects for the daily life of the inhabitants. It is not for nothing that the rural exodus cannot be overlooked in the mountain villages.
In this region, especially around Langadia, the formerly so popular came into being Flokati- carpets.

Tourist Attractions
- Loukous Monastery. The monastery near Astros Actually means Moni Metamorphossis Sotiros Loukous. The Transfiguration Monastery is still inhabited by a few nuns. In the center of the complex is a cross-domed church, built around 1400, the bricks are from antiquity and come partly from a sanctuary, partly from a nearby villa of the Herodes Atticus. As you approach the monastery, you will pass the remains of an aqueduct, which was sintered to give it a mysterious appearance.
