The fertile plain in the valley of the Evrotas with the municipalities of Sparti and Evrotas is the cultural and economic center of Laconia. Olive plantations and orange groves are dominant here.

The Mani region is divided into three areas:

  • the outer mani north of Areopoli until after Kalamata in the region Messenia,

Are noticeable in the architecture Defense towers, multi-storey houses with small windows, designed to defend their residents. There was blood revenge at the beginning of the 20th century, there are still ancient songs of the dead.

The Mani also has olives, often wild trees, but the oil from their fruits is valued. In the open landscape there is Scrub vegetation before, typical representatives are the strawberry tree and the Judas tree in addition to bay leaves, pistachios and holm oaks.
