Bad Hönningen is a city on the right bank of the Middle Rhine and is located in the district of Neuwied. The districts of Ariendorf, Girgenrath and Reidenbruch belong to Bad Hönningen.

The area around Bad Hönningen has been settled since more than 2000, as is shown by finds from Roman times. In 1894, a carbonated spring was discovered while drilling. In 1950 the state government awarded the municipality the title bath. Bad Hönningen has had city rights since 1969. Bad Hönningen is the administrative seat of the association of the same name, to which the communities Hammerstein, Leutesdorf and Rheinbrohl also belong.
