Bad Muskau lies in the extreme northeast Saxony, at the border triangle with Poland (Voivodeship Lebus) and Brandenburg. It is relevant to tourism primarily because of its palace and park complexes, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also on the Polish side in Łęknica continue east, and as a health resort.

By train

There are no longer any regular train connections to Bad Muskau. From Forest or White water the only way to continue is by bus. Only in summer does the narrow-gauge railway run from Weißwasser to Bad Muskau (see below #Activities).

Coming from Dresden you have to change trains twice (Görlitz and Weißwasser) and travel for 2:45 hours (connection every two hours).

Coming from Berlin it is at least 2:50 hours on the way, whereby you have to change three times (to Cottbus by train, then continue with buses). Connections with two changes (Cottbus and Weißwasser) take over three hours.

From Görlitz you can get to Bad Muskau in 1:10 hours with one change in Weißwasser.

By bus

Bus routes 250 from Weißwasser (hourly until 8 p.m.) and 868 from Döbern (every hour in the morning, every two hours in the afternoon until 5 p.m., on weekends three times a day) go to Bad Muskau. The tariff of the Zweckverband Verkehrsverbund Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien (ZVON) applies.

From the bus station in cottbus you can take the 851 bus every two hours to the Deutsches Haus in Döbern and from there take the 868 to Bad Muskau. All in all, it takes 1:10 hours.

In the street

Bad Muskau is on the B 115, between the exit Symbol: AS 7 Forest of the A 15 (Berlin–Breslau) and exit 93 / Kodersdorf of the A 4 Gorlitz. If you are coming from the direction of Berlin, however, it is already shorter to leave the motorway at junction 6 / Roggosen. It's a good 160 kilometers from Berlin, which usually takes just under 2 hours. From Dresden it is 120 kilometers, driving time 1½ hours (Autobahn to Bautzen-Ost, then continue on the B 156). From Cottbus to Bad Muskau it is a little more than 40 kilometers and the journey takes about as many minutes.

Buses only run at longer intervals in the area around Bad Muskau. Gablenz and Kromlau, for example, can only be reached five times a day by bus 257 from Weißwasser.

Since the park is quite extensive, the bike can be the means of choice. Those who do not arrive by bike anyway (for example on the Neisse cycle path) can rent one on site.

Bad Muskau is mainly by that Fürst-Pückler-Park known, the largest Central European landscape park in the English style with 830 hectares, which has been part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage belongs. Two thirds of the park are on the eastern side of the Neisse, in Poland. After decades of division, both parts are connected again by bridges, and crossing over is easily possible; However, a valid identity card or passport must be carried with you.

Kromlau

A landscaped park of around 200 hectares, which was laid out in 1844 by the landowner Friedrich Hermann Rötschke, a contemporary of Prince Hermann Pückler. He had both native and exotic plants planted and artificial rock formations and landscape sculptures (caves, grottos, pyramids, etc.) made from basalt cut in Saxon Switzerland and Bohemia. From 1893, the new owner, Graf von und zu Egloffstein-Arklitten, had his landscape gardener Georg Eichler redesign the park with rhododendrons and free-range azaleas, which still characterize the vegetation today. In the park there is the Kromlauer Schloss (actually just a mansion) from the 18th century and the picturesque Rakotzbrücke (in the vernacular "Devil's Bridge") over the Rakotzsee, which, however, may no longer be entered.

Another tour is available all year round on Saturdays for € 14, meeting at the cultural hotel (especially for spa patients and hotel guests), the same price.
    • Group tours can also be booked, from the small tour (1½ – 2 h; 3.50 € pp) to the large (3½ – 4 h; 6.50 € pp) to the complete tour (6–8 h, with a break; 12 , € 50 pp). Group size for all tours is at least 15 people.
