The town White water (Upper Sorbian: Běła Woda) lies in the Upper Lusatia, not far from the border with Poland. Weißwasser grew up mainly due to lignite mining in the GDR. Since the fall of the Wall, the population has been steadily decreasing.

The B 156 from Bautzen - there is a connection with the A 4 - to Bad Muskau. The road leads through almost uninhabited area; only the Boxberg power plant represents a larger landmark.

Weißwasser was a stronghold in ice hockey in the GDR. The club from Upper Lusatia received 25 championship honors. The games for the GDR championship were played between Weißwasser and the predecessor club of the Eisbären Berlin, as there were only two ice hockey clubs in the GDR.
