Bad Tabarz is a community in Thuringian Forest at the foot of the Inselsbergs (916 m) with about 4,000 inhabitants. The climatic health resort was officially recognized as a Kneipp health resort in 2001 and as a Kneipp spa in 2016. In 2017 the place became "Bad Tabarz".

Tabarz developed from 4 independent settlements in which ore mining was carried out. Tourism began in the second half of the 19th century. As early as 1875, 696 guests visited Tabarz. After the war, tourism brought a great economic boom. Today the Kneipp health resort has two health clinics in addition to many hotels. With a very well signposted 150km network of trails and three Kneipp hiking trails in beautiful nature, Bad Tabarz is a popular holiday destination.

By train

With the Thuringian Forest Railway which belongs to the Gotha tramway, Bad Tabarz can be reached from the direction of Gotha or Waltershausen. The 1 Bad Tabarz tram stop is in the east of the village. In Gotha there is a connection to long-distance and regional rail services.

As a holder of a tourist card, you are entitled to use regional public transport free of charge. The Bad Tabarz guests can then travel on the Thuringian Forest Railway, the regional bus lines of the RVG, in Gotha city traffic and on the local trains of Deutsche Bahn and Erfurt Bahn. The route network on which the tourist card is valid as a ticket extends from Tabarz to Brotterode, Oberhof and Gotha. The free use of buses, trains and trams is already included in the visitor's tax. Children and young people up to the age of 15 are exempt from the tourist tax in Tabarz, which is two euros per day. Accompanied by a visitor's card holder, the young people can also use the free public transport.
