Bielawy - a commune village in Poland, in voivodeship of Lodz, Lowicz poviat at the crossroads MainlyRząśno and LowiczFriday. The provincial road No. 703 runs through the town.

Characteristic

The village is situated on the Moga River, picturesquely spread out.

History

  • The first records are from 1381, the church probably already existed at that time. In 1403, it obtained city rights (also then a permit to hold markets on Wednesdays) and lost them in 1870, when the town fell into decline, in 1793 it had 64 houses inhabited by 353 residents, 28 of whom were craftsmen.
  • In the Middle Ages, the city was famous for beer production and trade.
  • The city's development was positively influenced by its location at the intersection of the following roads: z Piotrkow down Saturdays, dating from the 14th-15th centuries and from Łęczyca to Łowicz dating back to the beginning of the 12th century.
  • In 1459 Bielawy were classified as medium-sized cities, e.g. for relief Malbork then deployed 6 soldiers. In the second half of XVII and at the beginning In the 18th century, war damage and defeats led the town to collapse. During World War I and II, the buildings were also seriously damaged.

Interesting places

  • The most interesting monument is the gothic church from the first half of the 19th century. Fifteenth century, in the Gothic style of Masovia (the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph) which was founded by the canon of Gniezno, Wojciech Bielawski, owner of Bielawa. Brick, three-nave, with buttresses on the outside. The arcades between the naves have pointed arches, in the western and southern elevations there are pointed portals. The western gable is a recess and pinnacle, divided by pilaster strips. Two-span, rectangular chancel. Late baroque interior from the 18th century.
    The church is decorated with the polychrome by Sophia Baudouin de Courtenay.
    Inside the church, the oldest sandstone tombstone from 1462.
    Outside, a free-standing wooden belfry from 1734 with a bell from 1531 inside.
  • At the Catholic cemetery there is a monumental, neo-Gothic tomb chapel of the Grabiński family, Pomian coat of arms, with a coat of arms.
  • Also in this cemetery, the headquarters of Polish soldiers who died in the Battle of Bzura in September 1939 during World War II. There are 28 mass graves in 7 rows in total

  • The village can be reached by road no 703 from the side of Piątek or from Łowicz. It is also possible to get there by buses, but they do not run very often.
