Territories and tourist destinations
- Mandalay region - The territory of Mandalay it hosts several archaeological sites among which that of Bagan with hundreds of pagodas built by the kings of Burma on the east bank of the Ayeyarwady river. In the south lies the city of Naypyidaw, (formerly Pyinmana) which since April 2006 plays the role of capital of the country in place of Yangon. Mandalay is, with about 800,000 inhabitants, the second largest city in the country and constitutes a convenient base for excursions to renowned tourist destinations such as Mount Popa, an extinct volcano considered the Mount Olympus of South East Asia a short distance from Bagan. Popa populated by monkeys, Mount Popa is an oasis of freshness in the torrid central plains.
- Magway region - West of Mandalay. the territory of Magway has little tourist interest.
