The North Bohemia is a region of Czech Republic which includes the regions ofÚstí nad Labem and of Liberec.
Understand
This part of the country is not a popular travel destination because it has few well-known sites. But North Bohemia offers breathtaking landscapes (Bohemian Switzerland National Park, Bohemian paradise), where the flat lands of the Elbe meet mountains and create stunning rock structures, quaint historic towns, as well as some of the most beautiful castles in the country.
North Bohemia was the heart of the Sudetenland, the German region located in the Czech Republic. The cruel and poignant memories of the XXe century are ubiquitous: wealthy German villas (often abandoned now), pre-war spas, Terezin concentration camp, and countryside devastated by communist-era coal mines and heavy industry .

Cities
- 1 Liberec – The largest city (100,000 inhabitants) in northern Bohemia and central Liberec region is nestled in the Jizerske Hory, at the foot of Jested mountain (1012 meters). Unlike the industrial towns of Decin, Ústí nad Labem, Most or Chomutov, Liberec is a bustling and beautiful town with a large zoo, botanical garden, good restaurants and many attractions.
- 2 Ústí nad Labem – Second city and capital of the region of Usti nad Labem, known for its heavy industry and its main river port on the Elbe. Apart from the small castle of Střekov, Ústí nad Labem doesn't have much to offer (the historic center was destroyed during WWII and communism), but it is a good starting point for hikes in Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the Central Bohemian Highlands
- 3 Most – Although the city center (70,000 inhabitants) was destroyed in favor of coal mining and heavy industry, Hnevin Castle and the Gothic church (moved by train to the newly built town , located about a kilometer away; according to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the heaviest building ever to be moved on wheels) remains a memory of the German past.
- 4 Děčín – A large town (50,000 inhabitants) on the Elbe with its Baroque castle and synagogue in Art Nouveau style.
- 5 Chomutov – Another big city with a very beautiful historic center with one of the oldest Gothic churches in Europe.
- 6 Teplice – A town (50,000 inhabitants) known for its spas.
- 7 Litoměřice – Pretty, historic town (24,000 inhabitants), seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Litoměřice. The cathedral of Saint-Etienne dominates the city.
- 8 Žatec – A small historic town (19,000 inhabitants) located in an area of hop production.
- 9 Česká Lípa – The center (40,000 inhabitants) of the region of Kokořínsko, protected landscape area.
