At the crossroads of two Roman roads, the site of Bourgheim, near Barr, has been inhabited since the 1st century.

Understand

The ruins of the fort (burgus), which protected the road and the watchtower of the Kirneck, served as a base for the construction, in the 12the century, of the Romanesque church. Archaeological excavations have brought to light many remains of potters' installations in Roman times. During the Carolingian era, potters and glassmakers settled in the village.

The vine has long been cultivated on the slopes of Piedmont, with cereals and tobacco occupying the lowland lands.
