Goxwiller presents itself as a village street, in contact with the agricultural plain and the wine-growing piedmont, between Barr and Obernai.

Understand

Traditional craft activities (carpentry, clog maker, tannery, bookbinding ...) and viticulture have made its reputation. You can admire an old press from the 12the century and several public wells including two from the XVIe century.

Since ancient times, Goxwiller and the neighboring town of Bourgheim formed a legal and religious entity: on the coat of arms, the two joined circles symbolize this ancient union.

A "Villa veterana" is at the origin of the village located on the ancient Roman road of Piedmont. Mentioned for the first time in 920, the village is a property subservient to several abbeys, including that of Niedermunster, until 1522. Like the Lordship of Barr of which it is part, the village was placed under the suzerainty of the city of Strasbourg who introduced the reform.
