Bramsche is a city in the district Osnabrück in Lower Saxony.

background

Custom lies on the northern slope of the Wiehengebirge (the one with the Mountain range you shouldn't put on the gold scales, at the top it reaches 320 meters above sea level), which here merges into a swamp area in the transition to the North German Plain. The Mittelland Canal runs here today.

The legendary one probably took place in the Kalkriese district around 9 AD Varus battle instead, as indicated by numerous archaeological finds.
